Fraserburgh is a very intriguing course situated about an hour north from Aberdeen. The course has a mixture of some very interesting and cool holes and some which are a little uninspiring. The first hole is a pretty straight par 4 neighbouring the 18th which comes back the other way and is essentially just 2 wide fairways with a bit of low cut rough in between. The second hole is much interesting with an uphill tee shot with the fairway slanting right to left, thick rough on the left side and OB on the right. The next few holes are par 4s hitting through a valley then approaching raised greens. Hole 10 is a pretty cool hole, the green is definitely in range with the driver off the tee but miss and you’re not going to find your ball, the green is protected by a narrow opening from the fairway and rough surrounding behind. My favourite hole and one of the coolest I’ve played was the par 4, 13th. On the outset it’s a relatively straight forward hole at 279 meters but all throughout the fairway are these mounds that pop up and in different spots leading towards the hole and even the green is protected by a large one.
The course was in pretty good condition, the fairways relatively lush and the greens running well. In terms of practice facilities there is a driving range across the road from the club, I don’t believe it is directly affiliated but it’s close enough to access quite easily. There is a net next to the first hole and a putting green in front of the clubhouse.
There’s nothing in the way of a pro shop, there’s a few items on sale in the bar and whilst the course was quite interesting I think £120 a round you’d expect a little bit more to be honest.
