Situated to the left hand side of the Championship course and opening up a stone’s throw from the beach is the Buddon course. Probably the 3rd choice of the 3 courses Carnoustie has to offer but still a very fun and enjoyable course to play nonetheless and having played the Burnside and Panmure the two days prior the Buddon course offers a really nice change of scenery and despite not having had the opportunity to play the Championship course I’d imagine it offers a much different challenge to that as well.

The course has a pretty unassuming start (and finish for that matter). A less grandiose version of St Andrews with a wide large plot of land to hit your tee shot before reaching the green. The next couple holes are relatively straight working towards the back of the Carnoustie plot of land where the majority of the Buddon course sits and weaves through more parkland style holes with a smattering of water, of which not much is seen on the other 2 courses Carnoustie has to offer.

Similar to the Burnside course it is a par 68 course and don’t be fooled by the yardage it is still a tricky course and with wind considered there are some lengthy, challenging holes. Similarly again to the Burnside it was in really good condition, lovely lush fairways and really receptive greens for a course on a links property.

We played here on a weekend and the pace of play was excellent, there weren’t many other people on the course at all. Sadly there is no driving range but you have use of the Championship course putting and chipping areas and to be fair there is a short par 3 course consisting of 5 or 6 holes where you can warm up.

Another fun round and definitely need to come back to Carnoustie in the future!
