Went back to Clovelly and it was in as good condition as last time. The fairways there are some of the juiciest you will find around! I managed to get on for R400 with some friends who are members which I think is incredible value for money. The clubhouse is set up on the hill with 1st and 10th tees playing downhill and slowly working your way back up through the respective 9. The last few holes on each 9 play quite tough as the wind comes up through the valley directly into your face.
It is one of the shorter courses I have played in the Western Cape at a around 5,400 meters but that’s not to say it is easier as there are some narrow holes and hazards in certain areas. The greens are pretty quick, think they were playing 9 on the stint meter, not that that means anything to me.
If you’re a long hitter there are a few par 4’s that are reachable and my friend actually drove the green on the 18th which is a 300 meter uphill hole leading up to the club house. The clubhouse itself has a nice balcony overlooking the course and a great stop for a quick beer post round. The pro shop is well stocked and has many sets of clubs for international travellers needing to borrow a set. The practice facilities are good, there’s a driving range as well as chipping and putting greens.
This is a beauty! Parkland course in the foothill of a mountain. The juiciest, softest fairways you’re likely to get anywhere. Great, great course in the best part of the world.
